Improved XLarge workspace class for Gitpod Enterprise

We’re excited to share that the XLarge workspace class in Gitpod Enterprise is now significantly more cost-efficient!

What’s new? Your organization can now run two XLarge workspaces on a single EC2 instance instead of just one. This change can greatly reduce AWS EC2 costs if you rely on XLarge workspaces. Additionally, it means less time spent waiting for workspace starts, because there will be less EC2 instance scale-ups.

How did we achieve this?

  • Reduced memory allocation for internal services.
  • Reduced XLarge workspace memory from 30Gi to 27Gi.

What does this mean for your developers? Developers using the XLarge workspace class will now have 27Gi of memory, down from 30Gi. They can monitor this adjustment using tools like gp top.
